New Delhi: Exciting news for travelers in South India! Indian Railways is launching Karnataka’s 11th Vande Bharat Express, connecting Bengaluru with Belagavi. This new service is a vital step towards improving transportation in the region, and the South Western Railway (SWR) will manage the dedicated trainset.
Initially, the train will feature eight coaches. Considering the rising demand for premium travel options on the Bengaluru–Belagavi route, the railway is prepared to expand the service if necessary. A trial run took place on November 21, 2023, where the train reached a top speed of 110 km/h, completing the 610.6 km trip in an impressive 7 hours and 55 minutes—almost two hours faster than the current fastest train on that route.
The train will start from Belagavi in the morning and arrive in KSR Bengaluru by afternoon. It will head back later that same day, reaching Belagavi by night. Most maintenance will be handled at Belagavi.
Key Details:
- The train connects Bengaluru and Belagavi.
- Eight coaches will be included initially.
- Training for the route showcased travel speed and efficiency.
- The official launch date and ticket prices are expected to be announced soon.
- Initial fare estimates are Rs 1,500 for Chair Car and Rs 2,500 for Executive Class.
With this latest addition, Karnataka now boasts 11 Vande Bharat Express trains. The current routes include:
- Five originating from Bengaluru (to Dharwad, Kalaburagi, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, and Madurai).
- Two trains from Mysuru to Chennai (via Bengaluru).
- Two trains from Mangaluru (to Madgaon and Thiruvananthapuram).
- One route from Hubballi to Pune.
This development reflects a broader trend in Indian Railways, which aims to modernize its fleet and enhance passenger experience. According to a recent survey by the Indian Ministry of Railways, passenger comfort and services have become the top priority, with 78% of travelers expressing a preference for faster, more efficient train options.
As this new train is set to boost connectivity, it will not only benefit commuters but also enrich the local economy by opening new avenues for trade and tourism. Here’s hoping it helps passengers enjoy a smoother and quicker journey from Bengaluru to Belagavi and beyond!
