Indiana State University has welcomed Kirby Smith as its new NCAA Compliance Assistant Director. She was previously the Director of Compliance at Ohio Dominican University.
Smith expressed her gratitude, saying, “I’m excited to be part of the Sycamores and thankful to Joel McMullen and Nathan Christensen for this opportunity. Compliance is crucial for supporting student-athletes and coaches. I look forward to contributing to a culture of integrity and success.”
McMullen, the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance, praised Smith’s intelligence and work ethic, noting her unique perspective as a former NCAA student-athlete. He believes her experience will greatly benefit the Sycamores’ athletic program.
In her recent role at Ohio Dominican, Smith focused on student-athlete certification and eligibility. She also kept track of NCAA legislative changes and provided ongoing staff training. Before Ohio Dominican, she spent three years as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance at Eastern Kentucky University, ensuring compliance with NCAA policies.
Smith holds a Juris Doctorate from Southern Illinois University and a Bachelor’s degree from McKendree University. She competed in various track events during her college years, giving her first-hand knowledge of the athlete experience.
