Lance Carr, the son of former ULM basketball players Larry Carr and Cassandra Barker, is transferring to the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM). This move has been welcomed by head coach Ryan Cross.
Lance started his college career at UAB, where he played in seven games and scored five points in 18 minutes. Before that, he had a solid run at Kimball High School in Texas. There, he averaged 12.3 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks per game. He earned honors as both First Team All-District and Academic All-District during his junior year.
Cassandra Barker, Lance’s mother, reflected on the significance of this transition. “To see Lance step into the same space I once did is powerful,” she said. “ULM shaped who I am, and now he has a chance to build his own legacy.”
Cassandra played for ULM from 1989 to 1993, accumulating impressive stats, including 184 career blocks, making her second all-time in that category. In the 1992-93 season, she secured the record for most blocks in a season, a mark only recently surpassed.
Larry Carr, Lance’s father, expressed his excitement as well. “Watching my son continue our family legacy is everything to me,” he noted. “Lance has the drive and dedication to make a real difference.”
Larry played at Northeast from 1993 to 1995, making a name for himself with his shooting skills. He ranks seventh all-time for three-pointers made and has a .419 three-point shooting percentage.
In recent years, college basketball has seen an increase in player transfers, which impacts team dynamics. According to a report by the NCAA, nearly 1,000 players entered the transfer portal last year, reflecting the growing trend. Expert analysts believe this trend allows players to find schools that better fit their skills and ambitions.
