Exciting News: Lombardi Secures Contract Extension with University of Oregon Athletics Until 2030!

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon’s athletic director, Rob Mullens, recently announced a contract extension for head softball coach Melyssa Lombardi, extending her tenure through the 2030 season.

Mullens praised Lombardi, noting that under her leadership, Oregon softball has become a top-tier program. He emphasized her focus on providing a quality experience for student-athletes while achieving success on the field.

This past season, the Ducks had an impressive run, winning the Big Ten championship and making it to the Women’s College World Series for the first time since 2018. With a remarkable 54-10 overall record, their performance ranks among the best in program history. They won all eight of their Big Ten series, finishing with a 19-3 conference record, and landed at No. 5 in the final NFCA Coaches’ Poll. Lombardi’s efforts earned her the title of Big Ten Coach of the Year for 2025.

In just seven seasons, Lombardi has already established herself as the second-winningest coach in Oregon’s history, boasting a record of 239 wins and 116 losses.

“I’m thankful to Rob Mullens and the entire Oregon administration for their support,” Lombardi expressed. She highlighted the privilege of working with talented student-athletes and dedicated staff and the joy of playing at Jane Sanders Stadium. Lombardi reaffirmed her commitment to maintaining high standards in both competition and the student-athlete experience.

Since taking on the role, Lombardi has led Oregon to five NCAA Regional Finals, two Super Regionals, and the 2025 Women’s College World Series. Under her guidance, the program has produced notable players, including seven All-Americans and the program’s first Gold Glove winner.

Interestingly, Lombardi’s impact extends beyond just athletic achievements. In the realm of academics, her players have earned six Academic All-American titles. The Ducks have nurtured a total of 34 NFCA All-Region players and 30 all-conference selections, showcasing a balance between sports excellence and academic success.
