Exciting News: Lucasfilm Unveils ‘The Ninth Jedi’ Series at Star Wars Celebration Tokyo!

Lucasfilm had exciting announcements on the final day of the Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo. Fans can look forward to a new set of nine animated shorts titled “Star Wars: Visions.” These shorts will premiere on Disney+ on October 29. Among the highlights is a new longform series called “The Ninth Jedi,” created by writer and director Kenji Kamiyama. This series builds on the story from a previous “Visions” short.

James Waugh, Lucasfilm’s senior vice president, shared the news enthusiastically with the audience. He brought Kamiyama on stage, where Kamiyama expressed gratitude for the fans’ support for the characters Kara and Juro. These characters will return in a new spin-off titled “Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi.”

The original collection of “Star Wars: Visions” debuted in 2021. One of the shorts, “The Ninth Jedi,” told the story of a lightsaber-smith’s daughter who faces dark forces. It featured voice actors Chinatsu Akasaki as Kara and Tetsuo Kanao as Juro. The second season, launched in May 2023, included the critically acclaimed “Screecher’s Reach,” which won an Emmy for outstanding directing in animation.

“Star Wars: Visions” is a unique series because it allows different animation studios to present their take on the Star Wars universe, bringing diverse styles and storytelling techniques to fans. The upcoming third volume will include a new short called “Child of Hope,” which continues Kara and Juro’s story. While a release date for “The Ninth Jedi” series hasn’t been announced yet, fans are already buzzing with anticipation.

At the Tokyo event, Disney and Lucasfilm also announced that “Fortnite” plans to launch its biggest Star Wars-themed season yet. This update, featuring the fan-favorite character Darth Jar Jar, will arrive on May 2, showcasing how deeply Star Wars has integrated into popular culture.

The engagement from fans at the convention highlights the enduring popularity of the Star Wars franchise. According to a recent survey by a leading entertainment research firm, over 75% of millennials identify as Star Wars fans, indicating the franchise’s strong presence among younger generations.

As stories continue to unfold in the universe of Star Wars, it will be interesting to see how these new additions resonate with fans old and new. For further details, fans can check out the official announcements on Disney’s StarWars.com.
