Exciting News: LWC Community Welcomes the Inaugural Class of 2029 at Lindsey Wilson University!

COLUMBIA, KY. (06/07/2025) Lindsey Wilson College celebrated a major milestone as it welcomed the first members of its inaugural four-year undergraduate class during New Student Orientation on June 6 and 7. Excitement filled the air as students and families came together for this historic event.

Six additional orientation sessions are planned for July and August, leading up to the official opening of fall classes on August 25. About 450 freshmen are expected to enroll once the transition to Lindsey Wilson University is complete on July 1.

“We’re thrilled to welcome you to our first New Student Orientation for Lindsey Wilson University,” said Chris Schmidt, the Dean of Students. He emphasized the importance of this moment, reminding families they are part of something special over the next four years.

The orientation offered a glimpse of what students can expect at Lindsey Wilson. New students and their families were introduced to programs, policies, and the tight-knit community that defines the university. Schmidt, who has worked at Lindsey Wilson since 1995, highlighted the sense of family at the college, recalling his own journey from a high school student in New York City to a permanent member of the Lindsey Wilson community. “It’s about the people and the bonds formed here,” he said.

Looking ahead, Schmidt shared that graduation day is a highlight for everyone involved. “Witnessing students walk across the stage and receive their diplomas is unforgettable. It reminds us why we’re here,” he noted.

Making Connections

While family members met with staff, students mingled, shared interests, and formed new friendships. “I saw two students become best friends today,” said Holly Blaydes, an elementary education major and New Student Orientation leader. She expressed how valuable the day was for first-generation college students, helping them feel confident in their paths.

For Marshall Miller, who plans to major in business and play football, the day was about excitement and community. “I enjoyed the games and meeting new people—I can’t wait to start!” he shared.

A Sense of Belonging

New Student Orientation felt like a reunion for many. Easton Mefford, a legacy student whose parents are alumni, echoed this sentiment, saying it already felt like home. “I’ve heard Lindsey Wilson stories my whole life,” he said. For his mother, Ashley, the event was a nostalgic experience, evoking memories of her own college days.

Similarly, Trevor Huff, another legacy student, felt welcomed. “It’s great to be here; my whole family has attended Lindsey Wilson,” he said. His mother, Marci, reminisced about her time at the university, appreciating both the growth on campus and the community spirit that remains strong.

A Rich Legacy

Cayden Bragg brings a deep connection to the university’s history. His grandparents are alumni, and his late great-grandfather was a renowned professor and legislator. “Being here connects me to his legacy,” he shared as he prepared to major in psychology and join the music program. This sense of tradition resonates with many families, illustrating the lasting impact of Lindsey Wilson across generations.

Lindsey Wilson College, founded in 1903, serves over 4,000 students with a robust selection of programs. As it transitions to Lindsey Wilson University, the institution continues to promise a caring environment that nurtures academic growth and community spirit.
