Mandy Patinkin, known for his roles in Homeland and The Princess Bride, is set to play Odin in the TV adaptation of God of War on Prime Video. This series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, based on the popular video game.
Odin, the All-Father, may not appear god-like, but his intellect and cunning make him a formidable character. He’s obsessed with knowledge and is often paranoid about the future. To avoid Ragnarök, the apocalypse in Norse mythology, he becomes a dangerous opponent for Kratos, voiced by Ryan Hurst.
The story focuses on Kratos and his son, Atreus, who are on a quest to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Throughout their journey, Kratos tries to teach Atreus about godhood, while Atreus helps Kratos understand what it means to be human.
The cast features Teresa Palmer as Phoebe/Sif, Thor’s wife, and Max Parker as Heimdall, one of Odin’s sons. Ólafur Darri Ólafsson will take on the role of Thor.
God of War has already been ordered for two seasons, indicating high expectations. Ronald D. Moore, known for Outlander and For All Mankind, serves as the writer and showrunner. The series also boasts an impressive team of executive producers, including Cory Barlog, who played a major role in the original game’s development.
