The Marquette University track and field team has unveiled its exciting 2026 outdoor schedule. This year’s lineup includes 12 meets, with the standout event being the Marquette Invitational on April 10-11 at Melvin “Bus” Shimek Track and Field.
The season kicks off from March 26-28 with two events: the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis and the Redbird Invitational in Normal, Illinois. After these meets, the team will return to Milwaukee for the Green & White Invitational on April 2 at Wisconsin Lutheran.
The Marquette Invitational is always a highlight for the Golden Eagles. It’s a chance for local fans to watch the team in action. Following this, some athletes will travel to Jacksonville, Florida for the Golden Hour Invitational on April 17-18. The team will then compete at the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, from April 22-25.
As the season progresses, the athletes will prepare for various championship events. They’ll be in Madison on May 1 for the Badger Challenge and La Crosse on May 8 for the Uncaged Eagle Open. The BIG EAST Outdoor Championships will take place from May 14-16 in Storrs, Connecticut. Those who qualify will advance to the NCAA West Preliminary Round from May 27-30 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Finally, the season concludes at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, from June 10-13.
Interestingly, track and field continues to gain popularity. According to a recent survey by the National Federation of State High School Associations, participation in track and field has increased by 9.7% over the last five years. This growth could reflect the sport’s accessibility and appeal to young athletes.
