Exciting News: Microsoft Extends Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Price Freeze for Select Subscribers!

Microsoft has decided to pause price increases for some existing Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers in certain countries. Initially, they had announced a 50% hike for all subscribers. But now, the increase will only apply to new purchases in countries like Austria, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Korea, Poland, and India.

In an email to subscribers, Microsoft clarified, “These increases will only affect new purchases. If you’re on an auto-recurring plan, your current subscription price will stay the same.” However, if you cancel your plan and decide to sign up again, you’ll pay the new rate.

This pause is likely tied to local laws regarding subscription pricing. For example, in Ireland, those with auto-renewal will still pay €17.99 monthly instead of the new €26.99. Microsoft mentioned that any future price changes will be communicated at least 60 days in advance.

Interestingly, the recent updates diverge from Microsoft’s earlier plans. Initially, they stated that new pricing would take effect on October 1 for new subscribers and in November for current users. The price increase, however, still seems to affect current subscribers in the US and UK.

As of September 2023, subscription services across the board are adjusting to economic pressures. A recent report from Statista suggests that over 60% of global users have faced price hikes from streaming and gaming services this past year.
