Mike McCoy Joins the Raiders as Assistant Head Coach
Mike McCoy is the new Assistant Head Coach for the Las Vegas Raiders. He brings over 23 years of coaching experience in the NFL, making him a valuable addition.
McCoy’s journey includes four years as the head coach of the San Diego Chargers, where his teams ranked among the top in the league for offense. He also excelled as an offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals, leading several top-10 offenses. Notably, during his time with the Chargers, McCoy helped quarterback Philip Rivers achieve remarkable stats, including his career-best completion percentage.
Most recently, McCoy worked with the Tennessee Titans. There, he served as a senior offensive assistant and even stepped in as interim head coach. Under his guidance, rookie quarterback Cam Ward set a franchise record, throwing for over 3,100 yards in his first year.
His previous role as quarterbacks coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars also stands out. He helped Trevor Lawrence reach impressive passing yard milestones in consecutive seasons, solidifying Lawrence’s position as one of the rising stars in the league.
During his tenure with the Cardinals, McCoy played a key role in developing Josh Rosen and supporting veteran receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who had a standout season. McCoy also contributed to successful rushing attacks, helping his teams remain competitive.
Before his time in San Diego, he coached for the Broncos, where he was part of a coaching staff that led to strong performances by players like Manning, Thomas, and McGahee. The team reached the playoffs in 2011, showcasing the effectiveness of his strategies.
Historically, McCoy’s early coaching years were spent with the Carolina Panthers. He helped develop several quarterbacks and contributed to multiple playoff appearances, showcasing his ability to foster talent.
Interestingly, McCoy played quarterback in college before transitioning into a coaching career. His time as a player with various teams, including the Amsterdam Admirals in NFL Europe, has given him a diverse perspective on the game.
