Mike Tirico Returns to NBA Broadcasting with NBC Sports
Mike Tirico is set to be the lead play-by-play voice for NBC Sports’ NBA coverage starting in the 2025-26 season. He previously called NBA games for ESPN from 2002 to 2016, gaining extensive experience during that time.
At NBC Sports, Tirico already hosts major events like the Olympics and Sunday Night Football. His exciting role continues to expand—including the upcoming NBA games starting this October on NBC and Peacock.
“I’m thrilled to return to calling NBA games,” said Tirico. “My time covering the league was a career highlight. The energy of the NBA, especially during its iconic moments in the ‘90s, has always inspired me. Being a part of bringing that magic back to NBC is incredibly exciting.”
Once the NFL season and the Milan Cortina Olympic Winter Games wrap up in February 2026, Tirico will call several NBA games each week, including the season opener in October 2025.

Tirico has a rich history in the NBA, having called around 375 games including both regular-season and playoff matches. In addition to serving as the main studio host for ESPN’s NBA coverage, he also led the play-by-play for the NBA Finals on ESPN Radio multiple times.
He has collaborated with many respected analysts throughout his career, including Hubie Brown, Doris Burke, and Bill Walton, enhancing his broadcasts with varied perspectives and insights.
Alongside his broadcasting accolades, Tirico has won back-to-back Sports Emmy Awards for Outstanding Sports Personality as a Studio Host in 2022 and 2023. His recent work during the Paris Olympics gained praise, attracting millions of viewers across various platforms. In January 2025, he was honored with a spot in the National Sports Media Association’s Hall of Fame.
NBC Sports recently confirmed that former player Jamal Crawford will join the team as a game analyst, and Frank DiGraci will take on the role of coordinating producer.
In 2024, NBCUniversal and the NBA reached an 11-year agreement to air NBA and WNBA games. This agreement will include exclusive coverage and exciting new features like Sunday Night Basketball, allowing fans to enjoy three straight nights of NBA action.
