Omaha is about to see a big change in healthcare with the upcoming Farnam Health Center, set to rise in the Blackstone District. Nebraska Medicine just shared plans for this new four-story facility, which will sit at the corner of 42nd and Farnam streets.
This center aims to address several important health needs. It will provide services in dermatology, internal medicine, gastrointestinal care, and behavioral health. Notably, it will become the main hub for the dermatology program in the area.
CEO Michael Ash, MD, emphasized the urgency for more mental health services. He noted, “We know there is an urgent need for Behavioral Health services in the community. This project is a meaningful step toward expanding our world-class care.”
The project comes with a hefty price tag of $99.3 million, with some funding from generous donors. Construction is slated for completion in summer 2027, and the center is expected to open its doors to patients that September.
In recent years, the demand for behavioral health services has surged nationwide. According to a report from the National Alliance on Mental Illness, one in five adults experiences mental illness each year. The Farnam Health Center’s focus on these services is a timely response to this pressing need.
