Indian Railways is set to boost travel options in Rajasthan with a new Vande Bharat Express train on the Jodhpur-Delhi route. This semi-high-speed train, managed by the North Western Railway (NWR) zone, promises to enhance regional connectivity and support the local economy.
This news follows the launch of Rajasthan’s first Vande Bharat train, which began operating between Ajmer and Delhi on April 12, 2023. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated this service, marking a significant milestone as India’s first semi-high-speed passenger train to run on high-rise overhead electric (OHE) lines. It has improved access to major tourist spots such as Ajmer Sharif Dargah and Pushkar.
Currently, Rajasthan sees four pairs of Vande Bharat trains running on various routes:
- Ajmer-Chandigarh-Ajmer
- Jodhpur-Sabarmati-Jodhpur
- Udaipur-Jaipur-Udaipur
- Udaipur-Agra Cantt-Udaipur
The new Jodhpur-Delhi service is anticipated to cut travel time by over an hour, offering a swifter and more comfortable journey for passengers. A senior railway official has confirmed plans for this route, highlighting its importance for business and tourism development.
According to a recent survey by the Indian Railways, 80% of travelers have expressed high satisfaction with Vande Bharat services, citing speed, comfort, and punctuality as key benefits. This new train is expected to build on that success, making travel between Rajasthan and the national capital more efficient.
As this initiative develops, both residents of Rajasthan and frequent travelers are eager for the launch. The Vande Bharat trains hold the potential to transform travel in the state, balancing convenience with economic growth.
