Exciting News: New York Giants Welcome John Harbaugh as New Head Coach!

John Harbaugh holds the record for the most playoff wins on the road—eight, to be exact. He outpaces legends like Tom Coughlin and Tom Landry, who both have seven. What’s impressive is Harbaugh’s consistent success: he’s the only coach to win a playoff game in each of his first five seasons.

General manager Joe Schoen praised Harbaugh’s competitive spirit and ability to develop talent. He stated that Harbaugh’s approach to building a strong, winning team is one of the reasons for excitement in the Giants’ organization.

From 2008 to 2025, Harbaugh led the Ravens to remarkable defensive stats. They allowed the fewest touchdowns and points, while also ranking high in stopping rushing attempts and third-down conversions. On offense, the Ravens were a powerhouse, leading in rushing yards and yards per carry during his tenure.

In 2019, the Ravens reached a franchise milestone with a 14-2 record. They won 12 consecutive games, clinching their first No. 1 playoff seed. Harbaugh’s efforts earned him the AP NFL Coach of the Year Award, making him the first Ravens coach to claim that honor.

Expressing gratitude for his new role with the Giants, Harbaugh acknowledged the warm welcome he and his family have received. He emphasized his respect for the Giants’ rich history and showed enthusiasm for starting his new journey.

Harbaugh’s contributions extend beyond the field. He received the NFL’s Salute to Service Award in 2013 for supporting military members. In 2012, he and Coughlin were honored with the Outstanding Civilian Service Award by the late Army Chief of Staff General Raymond Odierno.

Harbaugh is part of an elite group of coaches who have made the playoffs six times in their first seven seasons. Along with his brother Jim, he is also unique in advancing to three conference title games within the first five years of coaching.

Notably, 2011 marked a historic Thanksgiving Day game between the Harbaugh brothers, where John’s Ravens triumphed over Jim’s 49ers. They further faced each other in Super Bowl XLVII, with John emerging victorious.

Harbaugh’s coaching journey began in 1998 with the Eagles, where he quickly earned a reputation for excellence in special teams. He stayed with the Eagles until taking the reins in Baltimore, succeeding Brian Billick.

An alumnus of Miami (Ohio) University, Harbaugh has been recognized with a statue at Yager Stadium alongside other legendary coaches. This honor celebrates those who have made significant contributions to the sport.

John and Jim Harbaugh’s influence began in their youth, attending Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, where they were later inducted into the Hall of Fame. Now, John’s daughter, Alison, is charting her own path as a law student after her collegiate lacrosse career.

The Harbaugh family has deep roots in coaching, with their father Jack boasting over 40 years in the field. His impressive achievements include winning the NCAA Division I-AA football championship. It’s clear the Harbaugh legacy continues to thrive both on and off the field.
