Exciting News: Northern Arizona University Swimming & Diving to Compete in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Starting 2025-26!

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Feb. 13, 2025) – Northern Arizona University is gearing up for a big change! The university has accepted an invitation to join the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) for women’s swimming and diving, starting in the 2025-26 academic year.

Head swimming coach Andy Johns shared his enthusiasm: “We are excited to be joining the MPSF for the 2025-26 season. The Western Athletic Conference has been a great home for us for the past 21 years, but we look forward to this new relationship and the opportunity to compete against both new and familiar teams.”

The MPSF is home to ten teams, including Incarnate Word, Pacific, Pepperdine, and San Diego. Several teams are transitioning from the WAC, such as California Baptist University, the University of Idaho, and New Mexico State University, among others. This new conference will bring fresh competition to the NAU swim team.

Now in its 33rd year, the MPSF oversees 15 Olympic sports and includes over 90 teams nationwide. Established in 1992-93, the conference aims to offer championship-level competition for sports without an established conference.

The MPSF has a strong track record, having celebrated five national championships in a single year twice, with the most recent achievement in the 2023-24 athletic season. In 2021, it became the first non-power conference to secure 100 national championships. Notable as well, 138 current or former MPSF student-athletes participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics, collectively winning 59 medals.
