Exciting News: Ohio Health System Finalizes Acquisition of Local Hospital for Enhanced Care

TriHealth, a healthcare provider based in Cincinnati, has announced plans to acquire Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, Ohio. This hospital, with 140 beds, is set to become the sixth acute care facility within the TriHealth system, which operates over 140 care locations in the Cincinnati area.

Mark C. Clement, TriHealth’s president and CEO, highlighted the long-standing partnership between TriHealth and Clinton Memorial. He believes this acquisition will greatly enhance medical services in Wilmington and nearby Clinton County, introducing specialized care in areas like cancer treatment, cardiovascular health, and women’s health.

Tom Daskalakis, CEO of Clinton Memorial Hospital, shared his concerns about the challenges community hospitals face today. He emphasized that joining a larger system would ensure that Clinton Memorial can continue serving its community effectively.

While the deal is still pending approval from state regulators and local officials, both organizations aim to finalize it by the third quarter of 2025. Whether Clinton Memorial will keep its name after the acquisition is still up for discussion.

TriHealth has a proven track record of improving healthcare services in rural areas. Clement mentioned that integrating Clinton Memorial aligns with TriHealth’s mission to provide accessible and high-quality care to residents in Southwest Ohio.

According to Fitch Ratings, TriHealth shows a stable outlook and has achieved an “AA-” rating, reflecting its strong position in a competitive market. They lead in various service areas, including cardiovascular and oncology care, and have plans to expand further with new clinics and physician practices.

Established in 1951, Clinton Memorial has been a cornerstone of Wilmington’s healthcare for nearly 75 years. While Wilmington is a small city of around 12,000 residents, it is conveniently located about an hour from larger cities such as Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus. This proximity allows for greater access to specialized care when needed.

In summary, the acquisition of Clinton Memorial by TriHealth aims to bolster healthcare resources in a community facing increasing challenges. It promises to enhance the quality and variety of services for local residents, marking a significant step in expanding healthcare access.
