Indian Railways is making travel more affordable with the launch of two new Amrit Bharat Express services. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate these routes on April 28. One train will run daily between Varanasi and Pune, while the other will operate weekly between Ayodhya and Mumbai.
These new services aim to strengthen connectivity in central India, benefiting pilgrims, workers, and everyday travelers. They are designed with low-to-middle income passengers in mind, featuring non-AC General and Sleeper class coaches. Despite their economical nature, the trains come with modern upgrades like improved seats, security features, and better passenger amenities, including mobile charging ports and accessible facilities for people with disabilities.
The Varanasi-Hadapsar route will connect two major cities known for their cultural and economic importance. Varanasi, famous for the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, attracts millions of visitors each year. This train service will support local economies, such as the Banarasi silk industry, by providing direct access to markets in western India.
Pune, especially Hadapsar, has become a thriving IT hub. The new link will ease travel for those commuting from northern states, fostering stronger economic ties between the regions.
Notably, the train will pass by key cities like Prayagraj and Bhopal, connecting agricultural and tourism hubs. It will also facilitate access to religious sites, including Shirdi, broadening travel options for pilgrims.
The Ayodhya-Mumbai service promises to enhance links between one of India’s rapidly growing pilgrimage sites and the nation’s financial center. Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir has attracted more visitors recently, making this direct route vital for millions traveling between these locations.
Key stops on the Ayodhya route include Sultanpur and Nashik, strengthening connections for those frequently commuting for work or family reasons. Both trains will use push-pull technology, which allows for faster journeys. The Banaras-Pune service will take about 30 hours, while the Ayodhya-Mumbai train will finish its route in approximately 28 hours.
With these new additions, Indian Railways will have a total of 66 Amrit Bharat Express services. This expansion reflects a broader mission to improve mobility and make travel accessible for everyone, connecting spiritual, economic, and rural areas. According to a recent survey, over 70% of travelers prioritize affordability and accessibility when planning their trips, underscoring the need for initiatives like these.
These developments showcase Indian Railways’ commitment to enhancing travel options while maintaining focus on affordability and dignity for all passengers.
