Sony Interactive Entertainment and Housemarque have exciting news! They’ve unveiled Saros, a thrilling third-person action game set to launch on PlayStation 5 in 2026.
Gregory Louden, the creative director, shares what makes Saros special. He describes it as an evolution of Housemarque’s gameplay style, building on the success of their acclaimed game Returnal. Rather than following the same path, they chose to create a new story and universe.
The game is set in the eerie world of Carcosa, where a lost colony is shrouded in mystery under a dark eclipse. You take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a fierce Soltari Enforcer on a mission to find someone very important to him. The game promises to be an emotional journey, exploring the sacrifices made in the pursuit of a brighter future.
Arjun is voiced by Rahul Kohli, known for his roles in Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher. His performance is expected to resonate deeply with players, and we’ll soon learn about the diverse cast of characters Arjun encounters on his journey.
One major difference between Saros and Returnal is the gameplay mechanic. In Saros, resources and progression are permanent. Every time you die, the world shifts around you, but you can choose upgrades for your character that carry over through each playthrough. This design encourages players to grow stronger as they face the challenges of Carcosa.
There’s a lot more in store! Fans can look forward to detailed revelations about gameplay, art, music, and technology. A first look at extended gameplay is set to be revealed later this year.
