“Exciting News: Sooners Head to Atlanta Regional for NCAA Tournament – University of Oklahoma Update!”

NORMAN – Good news for Oklahoma baseball fans! The Sooners have made it to the NCAA postseason for the fifth year in a row and the 43rd time overall. They earned an at-large bid for the 2026 NCAA Baseball Championship and will compete in the Atlanta Regional hosted by Georgia Tech.

The Sooners will kick off their journey against The Citadel on Friday at 4 p.m. CT, streaming live on ESPN+. In the earlier matchup, Georgia Tech, the regional host and No. 2 national seed, will face UIC at 11 a.m. CT on ACCN.

Oklahoma, seeded No. 2 in their regional, has a rich history in the NCAA tournament. They have played in 43 NCAA Regionals, ranking them eighth in the nation. They have achieved an impressive 101-86 record in tournament games and have reached the College World Series 11 times, winning national titles in 1951 and 1994.

Interestingly, the Sooners hold a 6-1 record against Georgia Tech, with their most recent victory occurring in Atlanta back in 2017. They famously defeated the Yellow Jackets during the 1994 championship. They also have a past meeting with The Citadel, winning 9-7 in 2014. A game against UIC would be a first for both schools.

Oklahoma has frequently faced tough competition in the ACC, playing regional tournaments at ACC schools seven times in their last nine NCAA appearances. They advanced to the Super Regionals twice during those tournaments.

This season, the Sooners ranked No. 24 in the final NCAA RPI, and their strength of schedule is ranked sixth nationally. They have notably secured six victories against teams in the top 25 of the RPI and ten wins against top-50 teams. Oklahoma also boasts nine wins this season against teams that will compete in the NCAA Tournament.

As they gear up for the postseason, enthusiasm is palpable among the fans and players alike. Social media buzz around the upcoming games reflects a hopeful spirit. Fans are eager to see how far the Sooners can go, given their recent strong performances in tough matchups.
