Exciting News: SpaceX Aims for February 28 Launch of the Revolutionary Starship Megarocket!

SpaceX plans to launch its Starship rocket again this week, aiming for the eighth flight on Friday, February 28. Elon Musk shared this exciting news on social media.

Standing at 403.5 feet (123 meters) tall, Starship is the biggest rocket ever made. It will take off from Starbase, SpaceX’s facility in South Texas. While the exact launch time isn’t set yet, you can usually watch these events live online, just like the previous seven flights.

The last flight happened on January 16. It was a mixed bag; SpaceX managed to catch the Super Heavy booster using the launch tower’s “chopstick” arms, but the upper stage of the rocket, called Ship, encountered problems. It was supposed to deploy ten mock Starlink satellites and splash down in the Indian Ocean, but it broke apart over the Atlantic Ocean just 8.5 minutes into the flight, likely due to a propellant leak.

SpaceX hasn’t shared specific goals for this upcoming Flight 8, but they will probably be similar to Flight 7. Over time, SpaceX wants to refine its recovery methods. The ultimate goal is to catch the Ship stage with the chopsticks, making it easier to inspect and re-launch the rocket. Musk has indicated hopes to achieve this by early 2025, but after the issues faced in the last flight, expectations may need to be tempered.
