Exciting News: Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus Reunite for ‘Gremlins 3’ – A Thrilling 2027 Mogwai Movie!

More chaos from the Mogwai is on the horizon! A third “Gremlins” movie is officially in the works, set to hit theaters on November 19, 2027. Warner Bros. Discovery President David Zaslav shared this exciting news during the company’s recent earnings call.

This new film will reunite original writer Chris Columbus and Amblin Entertainment, the company behind the first two “Gremlins” films. Columbus will direct and produce, with Steven Spielberg serving as executive producer. It’s been over 30 years since the last movie, making this long-awaited sequel a big deal for fans.

The first “Gremlins” came out in 1984, introducing audiences to the adorable yet mischievous Mogwai. Columbus set some very clear rules for caring for these creatures: don’t get them wet, don’t feed them after midnight, and don’t expose them to bright light. Ignoring these rules leads to wild chaos, with the Mogwai transforming into troublemaking Gremlins.

Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates starred in both the original and its 1990 sequel, along with Howie Mandel voicing Gizmo, the lovable Mogwai.

Even though it’s been ages since “Gremlins 2,” fans got a taste of the franchise in 2023 with the animated prequel series, “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai.” This series dives into the origins of the Mogwai, further exploring their connection to Chinese mythology. Showrunner Tze Chun explained that setting it in 1920s China allowed for a deeper exploration of the Mogwai’s roots, something only hinted at in the films.

In summer 2023, Galligan teased fans at Comic-Con Manchester about the upcoming movie, saying a script was ready and that Warner Bros. was eager to get Spielberg’s approval.

“Gremlins” isn’t the only classic being revisited at Warner Bros.; they’re also working on reboots of “The Lord of the Rings” and “Harry Potter.” As nostalgia sweeps Hollywood, many want to see beloved stories brought back to life, often using updated technology and storytelling methods.

The buzz around “Gremlins” showcases the enduring love for these quirky creatures. With the new movie on the way and the animated series already out, it looks like the Mogwai will remain a part of pop culture for years to come.
