The clatter of construction at 34 Mark West Springs Road is hard to miss. This three-story medical office building next to Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital is undergoing major renovation. Walls are coming down, and new spaces are being created as part of Sutter Health’s $10 million expansion project.
Once completed, this 10,000-square-foot facility will house Sutter’s orthopedics and podiatry departments, along with a dedicated X-ray suite. The area being transformed used to be leased by a private medical group but will now serve the health needs of many in the community.
Sutter Health is making a significant investment in Sonoma County, not just with this project. Just nine months ago, they opened a $16.9 million care center in Rohnert Park. This center includes urgent and primary care, imaging services, and more specialized offerings.
Felix Torres, the director of medical specialties at Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation-North, sees this renovation as a reflection of Sutter’s broader growth strategy. “This project is a milestone because of its size,” he explained.
With plans to hire 75 new doctors and health care providers next year, Sutter is preparing to meet increasing demand. Dr. Michael Maggnoti, president of Sutter Medical Group of the Redwoods, emphasizes that the group currently employs 150 clinicians and that adding 75 would be a significant leap.
This new facility will also improve patient care. It will feature 28 medical exam rooms, up from 16 at the previous location. This increased capacity means that Sutter staff can serve around 600 patients per day, a notable efficiency boost.
Rebecca Plunk, the construction project manager, shared that the updated layout allows doctors to share offices, optimally placing patient care areas within reach. This design not only meets healthcare standards but also maximizes space, proving that careful planning can lead to greater efficiency.
While renovation work at Mark West Springs is underway, Sutter is already eyeing further expansions. A new cardiology center is set to open soon at 18 E. Fulton Road, which will allow for the relocation of current cardiology services. They’re also expanding their Petaluma office, planning a considerable increase in size to include more imaging, urgent care, and specialty services.
The rapid pace of development shows Sutter’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility in the region. With their ongoing expansion, community members can look forward to better services and a higher standard of care.
