Suzanna Makkos is starting a new chapter as she leaves Max to become the head of comedy at ABC Entertainment and Hulu Originals. She’ll work under Simran Sethi, the president of scripted programming for both platforms.
Before this, Makkos was in charge of original comedy and animation at Max and Adult Swim. Her new role comes after a shakeup in October when ABC and Hulu combined their scripted teams. This meant they needed a new comedy head after Erin Wehrenberg stepped down.
In her new position, Makkos will oversee the development and programming of comedy series for both ABC and Hulu. This includes everything from scripted shows and adult animation to stand-up specials.
Simran Sethi praised Makkos, highlighting her extensive experience in creating hit comedies that resonate with audiences. Sethi expressed excitement about having Makkos join their creative team.
Makkos started her journey at HBO Max in 2019 and helped launch some successful comedies like “Hacks,” “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” and the “Sex and the City” spin-off “And Just Like That….” She also played a role in producing popular stand-up specials.
Before her time at Max, Makkos worked at Fox, eventually becoming the executive vice president of comedy programming. During her years there, she contributed to hits like “Bob’s Burgers,” “New Girl,” “The Mindy Project,” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”
Expressing her enthusiasm for her new role, Makkos said she’s excited to work with Craig Erwich, Simran Sethi, and the talented teams at Disney Entertainment Television.
