Exciting News: TRICARE Prime Atlanta and Tampa Bay Launching in 2026—Get Ready for Enhanced Healthcare Options!

Great news for eligible beneficiaries in Atlanta, Georgia, and Tampa, Florida! The Defense Health Agency has announced new options for TRICARE Prime that will take effect on January 1, 2026. This plan is called the TRICARE Prime Atlanta and TRICARE Prime Tampa, managed by CareSource Military & Veterans (CSMV).

Dr. David Krulak, the Director of the TRICARE Health Plan, highlighted that this initiative aims to improve access to care and overall health outcomes for beneficiaries. The data collected from this demonstration will help shape future TRICARE programs across the nation.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Enrollment fees will be waived for the first year for retirees and their families. After that, they will need to pay, while active-duty members and their families won’t face any enrollment fees.
  • All healthcare will be provided through CSMV’s network, giving beneficiaries a wide range of primary and specialty providers.
  • No referrals will be necessary to see network providers, making it easier to get the care you need.
  • CSMV will assist with selecting a primary care manager and will offer care coordination, disease management programs, virtual health services, and a 24/7 nurse help line.

Who can enroll? Eligible beneficiaries include:

  • Active duty family members
  • National Guard or Reserve family members with activated sponsors
  • Retirees and their family members who aren’t eligible for Medicare
  • Individuals in the Transitional Assistance Management Program
  • Survivors not eligible for Medicare

Enrollment will be open during the TRICARE Open Season from November to December 2025, leading up to the coverage start date on January 1, 2026.

This program’s launch comes amid trends showing a growing demand for more flexible healthcare options among military families. According to recent surveys, 75% of military families express the need for easier access to specialized care. The new TRICARE plan responds to these needs and aims to lead the way in how military healthcare evolves.
