The Indian Ministry of Railways is set to enhance travel between Bengaluru and Mumbai by introducing two new trains, one of which will be a Vande Bharat Sleeper Express. This upgrade aims to make overnight journeys faster and more comfortable, as stated by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The new Vande Bharat Sleeper train, designed by BEML with technology from the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, will feature a sleek orange and grey exterior. It will run between KSR Bengaluru and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai, marking the second sleeper version of this train in India. The first debuted earlier this year, connecting Howrah with Kamakhya and reducing travel time by six hours.
Production of these sleeper trains is ramping up, with twelve more expected to launch by December 2026. This initiative reflects a broad push to modernize India’s rail system, improving both speed and passenger comfort. According to recent statistics, train travel continues to grow in popularity, with over 23 million passengers traveling by train every day.
