Exciting News: Winthrop Men’s Basketball Secures 3rd Seed in Big South Tournament!

Rock Hill, S.C. – The seeding for the 2025 Hercules Tires Big South Basketball Championships has been released. Winthrop is set to face Longwood in the quarterfinals on Friday, March 7, at 8:30 p.m. This matchup is significant as it’s a rematch from last year’s tournament, where Winthrop lost to Longwood.

Winthrop tied for second in the conference with UNC Asheville, both finishing with a record of 11-4. However, UNC Asheville secured the second seed due to tiebreakers. The Eagles have an overall record of 21-10, marking their ninth 20-win season at the NCAA Division I level.

The tournament takes place from March 5 to March 9 at the Freedom Hall Civic Center in Johnson City, Tenn. The first game kicks off on March 5 with Gardner-Webb facing USC Upstate in a matchup between the 8th and 9th seeds. Friday promises plenty of action, starting with the top-seeded High Point playing the winner of Gardner-Webb and USC Upstate at noon.

Fans can catch the 2025 Big South Men’s Basketball Championship on ESPN+ through the week, with the title game airing live on ESPN2 on Sunday. The champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
