SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio are bringing classic titles back to life. On December 8, fans can dive into Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. If you’re a Nintendo Switch user, you’ll get the games a bit earlier on November 13. For PC players, there’s an update on December 9 with new language options.
There’s also a special physical edition that bundles both titles for the PS5 and Xbox Series. Plus, fans can grab the Yakuza Series 20th Anniversary Bundle for PS5 and PC. This bundle features Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, along with both Kiwami titles.
So, what’s the story? Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of the very first game from almost two decades ago. You step into the shoes of Kazuma Kiryu, a former yakuza. He’s on a mission to unravel a 10-billion-yen conspiracy in Tokyo’s red-light district. The stakes are high, and his determination makes him a legendary figure in the series.
In Yakuza Kiwami 2, Kiryu faces off against Ryuji Goda, known as “Dragon of Kansai.” This sequel brings intense rivalries and epic battles between yakuza clans to the forefront.
For the first time, both titles will offer in-game text support in multiple languages, including French, Italian, German, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian. This broadens accessibility and invites more players into the Yakuza universe.
Interestingly, the Yakuza series has evolved significantly since its inception. While the original game focused heavily on action, newer entries also explore deeper storytelling and character development. According to a recent survey from gaming analysts, 78% of players believe that engaging narratives are just as important as gameplay mechanics.
If you’re a newcomer or a long-time fan, these remakes are a chance to experience these iconic stories with updated visuals and features. With the increased focus on global accessibility, it seems the Yakuza series is ready to welcome everyone.
