Exciting NCAA Championship Qualifiers from Lexington, KY
Spencer Young and Kosi Umerah are heading to the 2026 NCAA Championships at Hayward Field, marking their first trips to this prestigious event.
Kosi Umerah made waves in the women’s hammer throw. With her impressive throw of 62.46 meters, she became the first female hammer thrower since Jill Shippee in 2022 to qualify. Umerah showed remarkable progress, improving her distance by nearly 5 meters this season under the new guidance of her throws coach, Kitchell.
Following Umerah, Spencer Young also clinched her spot in the championships with a standout performance in the women’s javelin. She recorded a personal best throw of 51.05 meters, a significant leap from her previous best of 46.01 meters. This achievement not only highlights Young’s growth but also continues the momentum from last season when Kate Joyce made it to Oregon.
In addition to Umerah and Young, Makayla Paige and Aaliyah Berry both moved forward to the quarterfinals in the women’s 800m and 100m hurdles. Paige finished 11th overall but secured her place by coming in second in her heat. Berry also advanced, finishing third in her heat.
