While it ensures that Blu-ray discs work properly, it also aims to disrupt the efforts of modders who jailbreak their consoles. For users who have modified their PS3s, installing this update could render their systems inoperable. On the flip side, those using unmodified consoles will benefit, as their physical game collections remain playable.
Jailbreaking consoles is often seen as a controversial practice. While some users justify it as a means to access homebrew games, many use it to play pirated versions of games. This issue has been particularly contentious for companies like Sony and Nintendo, especially when it comes to protecting their intellectual property.
