WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – The Wichita Falls Regional Airport is on the lookout for a new food vendor. The spot has been empty for years since the previous restaurant closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Airport officials aim to either partner with a local business or invite a larger Texas-based company. According to airport operations supervisor Matthew Burek, a new eatery could boost traffic and enhance the overall travel experience.

“A new food vendor would make this beautiful airport feel even more welcoming,” Burek noted. “It’s an important piece that needs filling. Let’s bring in a great food option!”

Burek also shared his vision for the new restaurant: “I’d love to see an amazing lunch spot. Opening at 11:00 and closing around 2:30 or 3, I’d focus solely on lunch. I want people to enjoy a comforting soup, a delicious sandwich, and maybe a slice of pie with iced tea.”

The goal is for the new vendor to open in summer 2025, coinciding with the launch of a new parking structure. “July is going to be an exciting month for us,” Burek added.

Currently, vending machines are the only food option available at the airport, so the new vendor will play a crucial role in satisfying travelers’ appetites.

Recent trends indicate that airport dining is evolving. A study by the Airports Council International found that 75% of travelers prefer a variety of food choices when flying. This shift highlights the importance of quality dining experiences, especially in smaller airports like Wichita Falls.
