Exciting Partnership Announcement: Lockheed Martin and Turner Construction Join Forces as OneUK Partners

Lockheed Martin and Turner Construction Co. have just joined the University of Kentucky’s OneUK program, a collaboration designed to bolster ties between the university and key businesses in the community.

The OneUK initiative focuses on building strong, long-lasting relationships that benefit both the university and its partners. This collaboration aims to support innovation, talent development, and economic growth throughout Kentucky.

Lockheed Martin, which employs over 1,500 people in the state, has a rich history of working with Kentucky, contributing to major projects in defense and security. Vic Torla, a vice president at Lockheed, shared that this partnership will enhance their talent pipeline, potentially leading to new job opportunities in the area. He emphasized the importance of accessing top-notch engineering and manufacturing expertise.

Earlier this year, Lockheed Martin teamed up with UK Innovate for a project focused on engineering and manufacturing technologies. In August, they opened an office at UK’s Coldstream Research Campus, creating around 70 full-time positions. This move strengthens their relationship with the university and showcases a commitment to community growth.

Turner Construction Co., known for managing significant construction projects, has worked with the university for years, completing over 30 projects, including the Albert B. Chandler Hospital. Dave Opalka, a vice president at Turner, noted that joining OneUK aligns perfectly with their mission to enhance education and community development.

Beyond building facilities, Turner supports local businesses through the Construction Business Accelerator program. This initiative helps small construction firms gain valuable skills and resources, fostering a stronger construction industry in the state.

Lockheed Martin and Turner Construction are now part of a larger group of OneUK partners, which includes entities like Fidelity Investments and Valvoline Global. Together, they have engaged with the university community by sponsoring events and helping with research initiatives.

OneUK is part of a broader effort known as the Advancing Kentucky Together (AKT) Network, aimed at improving conditions in all 120 counties across the state. This collaborative approach seeks to integrate education, healthcare, business, and government, creating a collective impact in local communities.
