The Nuclear Company has launched its main office for engineering and construction in Columbia, South Carolina. They’ve teamed up with the University of South Carolina’s Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing. This partnership aims to position South Carolina as a leader in nuclear energy innovation and workforce development.
By bringing together the university’s strong nuclear engineering program and the Nuclear Company’s expertise, they plan to focus on research, education, and training. This collaboration hopes to boost the adoption of nuclear energy across the country.
The Nuclear Company is set to invest $5 million over the next five years. The University will match this investment through federal funding and donations from industry partners. This financial support will help create significant projects, such as:
- A Joint Research Center for Nuclear Innovation. This center will focus on digital modeling, advanced manufacturing, and materials research.
- Workforce programs that provide internships and co-op opportunities, including a Summer Nuclear Science Institute for high school students.
- Joint public education campaigns to raise awareness about nuclear energy.
As Hossein Haj-Hariri, Dean of the Molinaroli College, said, “South Carolina has always been a nuclear energy pioneer. This partnership will help drive innovation and prepare the next generation of workers.”
Joe Klecha, Chief Nuclear Officer of The Nuclear Company, added, “The University’s history in nuclear education has created many jobs and supports a clean energy economy. We are excited to collaborate as America invests heavily in nuclear power.”

As discussions about climate change and energy independence continue, this partnership could be a crucial step in shaping America’s energy landscape.
