The Milwaukee Brewers showcased an impressive performance, defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates 14-0. This victory marked their 11th consecutive win, highlighting their dominance in Major League Baseball.
Sal Frelick and Brice Turang both contributed homers against pitcher Paul Skenes. Christian Yelich, Andrew Vaughn, and Caleb Durbin also joined the list of players hitting home runs. With this win, the Brewers improved their record to 27-5 over the past 32 games. Freddy Peralta excelled on the mound, allowing only three hits over six innings.
This 11-game winning streak is now the second-longest in the franchise’s history. Skenes, who had been performing well, faced challenges this game, giving up four runs and six hits in four innings. It was his first loss since July 11, during a span where he allowed just four runs in his previous four outings.
Frelick opened the scoring with a lead-off homer in the first inning. Turang followed with a solo shot that extended the lead to 3-0. Yelich later hit a two-run homer, bringing the score to 6-0. Vaughn’s three-run shot capped off a six-run sixth inning. To round off the offensive showcase, Durbin added a two-run homer in the eighth.
With the Cubs losing to the Blue Jays, the Brewers’ lead in the NL Central expanded to 7.5 games, the largest lead in the majors right now. The Pirates, currently at the bottom of the division, struggled throughout the game, including a critical double play that ended their fourth-inning threat.
Interestingly, the Brewers have hit a league-high 23 homers in August, with Turang contributing six, which doubles his season total. Their offensive power is evident, making them a team to watch.
In the upcoming series finale, right-hander Brandon Woodruff (4-0, 2.29 ERA) will take the mound for the Brewers, while the Pirates will counter with Mitch Keller (5-10, 3.86 ERA).
