In New Delhi, work on the 82 km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is almost complete. Currently, about 55 km of the track is already in use.

This project uses a special precast slab track system designed for high-speed trains, as the traditional ballastless tracks only support speeds up to 95 km/h. An official from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) stated that the final stages of the track installation will soon conclude, marking an important step in the project’s progress.
Since the first section opened on October 21, 2023, around 6.6 million commuters have traveled on Namo Bharat trains. Trial runs for the trains on the Meerut South to Shatabdi Nagar section started back in February, with more trial runs planned soon for the section from Anand Vihar to Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi.
The corridor is mainly elevated, covering about 70 km, with around 12 km underground. Unlike other metro systems that build tracks on-site, the Namo Bharat project required an advanced approach. Every 5 to 10 km, a station has been set up. The trains are designed to operate at speeds of up to 160 km/h, so a reliable system was crucial. The official explained that the precast slab track system was chosen for its durability and reduced maintenance needs.
To support the project, a specialized factory in Meerut produced 44,000 precast slabs using advanced machinery. This ensured precise installation and alignment of the tracks. The system minimizes vibrations and jerks from high-speed movement, promising a smoother and more comfortable ride for passengers.
The corridor runs from Sarai Kale Khan in New Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut. It will feature 16 Namo Bharat stations and nine Meerut Metro stations, transforming regional transit and making commutes much easier. The third station in Delhi, Sarai Kale Khan, is expected to be fully operational by June.
