Grand Canyon University (GCU) is entering the holiday break on a high note. They achieved their first three-game winning streak of the season with a solid 91-78 win against IU Indy. The Lopes dominated for most of the game, holding the lead for 38 minutes.
One standout player was senior guard Jaden Henley. He scored a career-high 29 points, shooting 10 of 13 from the field. He also made 7 of 9 free throws and grabbed eight rebounds. Remarkably, Henley crossed the 1,000-point milestone at GCU during this game. His height and agility gave IU Indy trouble, particularly since they are known for fouling.
In the second half, IU Indy made a strong push, narrowing GCU’s lead to just 67-64. But the Lopes answered back, going on a 15-2 run that included a scoring burst from junior guard Dusty Stromer. This helped them maintain a comfortable lead until the final buzzer.
One key statistic highlighted GCU’s strategy: they drew 22 fouls from IU Indy and capitalized by scoring 26 out of 30 free throws. This gave them a significant edge at the line, outscoring IU Indy by 17 points in free throws alone.
GCU’s head coach, Bryce Drew, praised his team for their strong defensive performance. “I’m really proud of our guys,” he said, reflecting on their heart and effort throughout the game.
Looking ahead, GCU will take a short break before returning to action in the Mountain West Conference. They’ll face Colorado State at home on January 3.
