SpaceX successfully launched 28 Starlink V2 Mini satellites into low Earth orbit on Saturday night. The Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 11:07 p.m. EDT.
The weather was clear, with winds being the only concern. The 45th Weather Squadron predicted over a 95% chance of favorable conditions, which came true. A meteorologist noted, “A high-pressure ridge over the Atlantic keeps moisture low, limiting cloud cover.”
This mission, known as Starlink 6-72, featured the Falcon 9 first stage booster, B1078. This booster has now flown 19 times, including missions like Crew-6 and USSF-124. After about eight minutes, it landed safely on the droneship, “Just Read the Instructions.” This was the 114th landing for that droneship and the 427th successful booster recovery overall.
Satellite internet service has seen rapid changes in recent years. With over 4,000 satellites in orbit, SpaceX’s Starlink aims to provide high-speed internet globally, especially in remote areas. According to a recent study by the Federal Communications Commission, 29 million Americans still lack adequate internet access. Starlink seeks to bridge that digital divide, making connectivity available where traditional infrastructure falls short.
