Exciting Shift: MSI Express Welcomes New Ownership – What This Means for Food Co-Manufacturing

MSI Express, a food and beverage co-manufacturer based in the United States, has been acquired by Nonantum Capital Partners. The financial terms of the deal remain private.

HCI Equity Partners, the previous owner, called MSI Express one of the largest food co-manufacturers in the U.S. They provide essential contract manufacturing and packaging services to major food and beverage brands.

Jon Biotti, managing partner at Nonantum, highlighted MSI Express’s commitment to engineering and customer service. He emphasized their strong industry expertise, suggesting a promising future for the company.

Located in Portage, Indiana, MSI Express operates 15 facilities across six states. The company offers a variety of services, such as blending and packaging dry foods, liquid packaging, and bottle filling. They also handle dry pet food and produce vitamins and supplements.

MSI Express formed from a merger between Express Packaging, founded in 1988, and Manufacturing Solutions International, established in 2008. Their growth strategy includes building partnerships with top brands, according to co-founder and CEO Charles Weinberg. He expressed enthusiasm about Nonantum’s support for scaling their operations.

In recent years, MSI Express has expanded its capabilities. In 2020, they acquired Power Packaging, gaining four new production facilities in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Texas. This acquisition enhanced their offerings, including aseptic beverage filling and stick packaging for jars, cans, and bag-in-box containers. It also allowed them to enter new markets like powdered beverages, soups, and baking mixes.

In 2021, they took over PacMoore’s contract manufacturing operations in Hammond, Indiana. This move further boosted their capacity to meet rising customer demands.

The food and beverage manufacturing industry has seen significant growth recently. According to a report by IBISWorld, the industry is expected to grow at a steady pace, driven by rising consumer demand for diverse and convenient food options. Health-conscious choices, including organic and plant-based products, are also on the rise. This evolving market presents opportunities for companies like MSI Express to adapt and thrive.

As consumer preferences shift, staying attuned to market trends becomes essential. MSI Express seems well-positioned to navigate these changes, thanks to their strategic acquisitions and industry expertise. The focus on growth and innovation will be vital, especially in a competitive landscape.
