The Saint Louis Billikens field hockey team is set to face UC Davis this Sunday at noon at the SLU FH Complex. Coming off an exciting victory against Richmond, the Billikens are looking to keep up their momentum.
This game is special: it’s the Billikens’ Pink Game for Breast Cancer Awareness. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to support this important cause. It’s also Alumnae Day, celebrating past players who have contributed to the team’s journey.
The Billikens currently have a record of 5-4. They achieved a historic 2-1 win against Richmond, marking their first victory against the Spiders in 24 matchups. This win also stands as SLU’s first road game win in the Atlantic 10 Conference since 2007. Remarkably, it’s only the fourth time in the last 20 years that SLU has reached five wins this early in the season. Explore past records.
Leading the team is Olivia Smith with 11 points from five goals and one assist. Sierra Larson, who earned the title of A-10 Offensive Player of the Week, has contributed four goals. Others like Abby Vidas and Shaya Dry have also made key contributions this season.
In goal, Abby Schalow has been a standout. Her 1.76 goals against average and .808 save percentage place her among the top goalkeepers in NCAA Division I. In the previous match, she even stopped a crucial penalty stroke.
On the other side, UC Davis comes in with a 4-6 record, following a tough 5-0 loss against Indiana. Ella Franken is leading their offense with 16 points. Karly Redman has also been a key player for their team.
This season is particularly significant for the Billikens as it marks the 50th anniversary of field hockey at Saint Louis University. The program started in 1975 and has evolved considerably over the decades.
As for logistics, street parking is available on Lasalle Street, and the Hickory East Garage offers another option, although it is cashless. Admission to home games remains free, allowing more fans to enjoy the action.
Next week, the Billikens will head to Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes. With the energy and support behind them, the team is eager to build on their recent successes.
