Harvard Women’s Basketball Gears Up for Maine
Harvard’s women’s basketball team (6-5) is back in action this Sunday, December 21, against Maine (4-8). The Crimson are aiming for their fourth straight win as they host the Black Bears at Lavietes Pavilion.
Season Snapshot
This season, Harvard has faced a challenging schedule. They began with 13 non-conference games and their regular Ivy League matchup. In November, the team played nine non-conference games, many on the road, ending up with a 4-5 record.
They’ve recently started a four-game homestand, enjoying victories against Holy Cross and Stony Brook, winning by an average of 24.5 points. In the game against Stony Brook, Abigail Wright shone brightly, scoring 22 points. Mary Hollensteiner had her best game yet, contributing 17 points, while Saniyah Glenn-Bello excelled across the board with 14 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds.
Standout Players
After strong performances, Olivia Jones earned her second Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Week honor. She averaged 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals in those games.
Wright is having a breakout season, averaging 14.5 points and 6.9 rebounds, ranking fifth in scoring and sixth in rebounding in the Ivy League. She’s also the 11th best offensive rebounder nationally, grabbing 4.3 offensive boards each game.
Glenn-Bello is a key player, ranking fourth in blocks and sixth in assists in the Ivy League. Her all-around contributions include averages of 10.1 points and 4.4 rebounds.
Coaching and Team Dynamics
The team is guided by Coach Carrie Moore, recently named to the preseason watch list for the 2026 Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year Award. Last season, she was a finalist for the award. The Crimson is currently ranked 19th in the Mid-Major Top 25 poll and holds the second-best NET ranking in the Ivy League at 68.
Looking Ahead
After the game against Maine, Harvard will round off the non-conference portion of their season, taking on Delaware on December 29. The tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. ET. The Crimson has won three of their last four meetings against Maine, recently defeating them 83-41 on their home court on November 17, 2024.
