Jannik Sinner is set to face Alexander Zverev in the Australian Open final after his impressive win over Ben Shelton. Sinner, ranked number one in the world, defeated Shelton with scores of 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, and 6-2 on the iconic Rod Laver Arena, where he won his first major title last year.

Earlier, Zverev advanced after Novak Djokovic had to retire from their match due to injury. Zverev is still on the hunt for his first major title after losing in two previous finals. He faces a tough challenge against the in-form Sinner on Sunday.

The women’s final features two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka against Madison Keys, happening on Saturday.

At just 21, Sinner has made a remarkable mark in tennis, being the youngest man to reach multiple Australian Open finals since Jim Courier in 1993. Over the past year, he has shown incredible dominance, entering the final on a 20-match winning streak and not losing since October 2.

Shelton started strong, breaking Sinner in the first game. However, he soon faltered, giving Sinner a chance to regain control. After battling through some intense moments, including a tie-break where Sinner won five straight points, the match shifted in Sinner’s favor.

Even when Shelton pushed hard in the third set, trying to break Sinner’s serve, it was Sinner who came out on top. After a slight limp from an awkward landing, he still closed out the match in two hours and 36 minutes.

Sinner’s journey in this tournament takes place amid a looming doping case that will be heard in April. As the World Anti-Doping Agency pushes for a possible ban, Sinner remains focused on defending his title.
