ASHEBORO – The first round of the Tot Hill Farm Invitational was interrupted by darkness, leaving two Phoenix golfers tied for third. The Elon women’s golf team ended the day at 14-over-par, placing them sixth as all five players neared the end of their rounds.
With bad weather expected in Asheboro on Monday, the tournament will now consist of 36 holes instead of the usual 54. Round one will finish Monday morning, followed by the second and final round. Originally, round one had been pushed to Sunday to avoid the weather.
Ashley Lafontaine and Annie Wu are both at 1-under-par as they head into Monday. Lafontaine finished her round with a score of 71. Wu still needs to play the sixth hole to complete her round. They trail Barbara Carr from Old Dominion, who leads with a score of 3-under but has played only 15 holes.
Lafontaine, who tied for eighth in last year’s tournament, had a rocky start with two bogeys in the first four holes. However, she bounced back by going 2-under for the rest of the round.
Emma Hansen finished with a score of 78, while Lilli Downer scored 82. Both are key players for the Phoenix team.
