Exciting Sinéad O’Connor Biopic in Production by the Team Behind ‘Slow Horses’

A biopic about Sinéad O’Connor is in the making, backed by some of the team behind the successful 2022 documentary Nothing Compares. Directed by Josephine Decker, known for her well-received biopic on writer Shirley Jackson, the film aims to capture the essence of O’Connor’s life and music. The script is being crafted by Stacey Gregg, who has worked on series like Mary and George and Little Birds.

The production companies include See-Saw Films, known for films like The King’s Speech and The Power of the Dog. Nine Daughters and ie:entertainment, who also produced Nothing Compares, are involved as well.

O’Connor, who passed away in 2023 at age 56, was a music icon famous for her hit Nothing Compares 2 U. Her life was full of highs and lows. She was known not just for her powerful voice but also for her bold actions. In 1992, she infamously tore up a picture of the Pope on live TV. She was ordained as a priest by an independent Catholic group in 1999 and converted to Islam in 2018.

The upcoming film will focus on her early days in music, exploring how a girl from Dublin became a global sensation. It highlights her remarkable talent and the controversies that surrounded her, particularly her efforts to shine a light on the actions of the Catholic Church and the Irish state.

Recent surveys show that many young artists today view O’Connor as a trailblazer for speaking out against injustices, inspiring a new generation of musicians. Social media trends reveal that her music continues to resonate. Hashtags like #NothingCompares are popular among fans celebrating her legacy.
