BALTIMORE, Md. (March 7, 2026) – The Morgan State softball team is set for another local tournament this weekend. They will compete in the UMBC Round Robin #2 from March 6-8, hosted by the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
After rain canceled Friday’s matches, the team will kick off the tournament on Saturday. Morgan State will first face UAlbany at 10 a.m. and then play against the host team, UMBC, at 3 p.m. On Sunday, they will play Syracuse at 10 a.m. before wrapping up the tournament with a game against UMBC at 12:30 p.m. All games will be held at The Diamond at UMBC.
Currently, the Lady Bears are looking for their first win of the season, entering the weekend with an 0-10 record. Last week, they participated in Towson’s DeMarini Invite, where junior pitcher Serena Rodriguez made her mark. She was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Pitcher of the Week after pitching a total of 14 innings across five games and earning five strikeouts.
Softball can be a tough sport, especially for teams like Morgan State that are rebuilding. According to recent NCAA statistics, college softball has seen a growth of 27% in participation over the last decade, making it one of the fastest-growing women’s sports.
