Union, N.J. (April 15, 2025) – The Kean University softball team faced the William Paterson Pioneers and ended the day with a win and a loss.
In the first game, Kean lost 4-3. The Pioneers started strong, scoring their first run in the first inning without a hit. They managed to add two more runs in the third and another in the fifth, pushing the score to 4-0. Despite this, Kean fought back. They scored twice in the fifth and sixth innings, narrowing the score to just one run. The Pioneers relied on six walks to gain an edge, while Lilah Guthy contributed two RBIs and earned the save for leading her team through a tight seventh inning.
Game two was a different story. Kean, initially down 2-0, turned the game around in the sixth inning. Gina Mahlik kicked things off with a double, leading to a grand slam by Samantha Raymond, which secured a 5-3 victory for Kean. Olivia Quercia pitched a solid complete game, improving her record to 5-2. Mahlik stood out again, finishing the game with two doubles.
