The Western Michigan softball team is gearing up to face Bowling Green this weekend, with the first game kicking off on Friday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. Fans can catch the Friday match live on ESPN+.

Last week was a mixed bag for the Broncos. They lost the first game of a doubleheader against Buffalo, 6-3, but bounced back to win the next two games. They secured a 5-2 victory in the second game and triumphed 9-7 in the Saturday showdown.
In Friday’s win, the Broncos quickly built a 4-0 lead. Key contributions came from Riley Dittmar, Tristen Head, and a solo home run by Jadeyn Merril. Kaylee Salyer was on fire, pitching a full seven innings with a career-high eight strikeouts, marking her first win in college.
Saturday’s game saw the Broncos jump ahead 5-0 early on. Payton Kelly made a splash with a 2-RBI triple, and Analeez Niles hit a two-run homer shortly after. Even though Buffalo clawed back, scoring four runs in the fifth to make it 7-6, Western Michigan pulled ahead again with significant contributions from Micaela Booth and Jordan Smith.
Now, let’s look at Bowling Green. Currently, they sit at 5-8 in the MAC standings. Last weekend, they played a tough series against Northern Illinois, managing only one win. Playing at home, they have a slightly better record at 6-3 this season.
Addie Martin is the standout player for the Falcons, boasting a .364 batting average, with 12 home runs and 30 RBIs. Her impressive slugging percentage of .754 makes her a player to watch. Mackenzie Krafcik leads their pitching efforts, logging over 69 innings with a 7-6 record.
Senior outfielder Payton Kelly’s recent performance shows her resilience. After struggling with back-to-back hitless games, she turned things around with solid performances, hitting 2-for-3 and 3-for-4 in the following games respectively. Her ability to bounce back showcases the mental toughness needed in competitive sports.
Looking ahead, Western Michigan is back at home for a doubleheader against Ball State on Tuesday before heading to Akron for three games this weekend.
