EDMONTON, AB – The Edmonton Oilers have made some significant trades. They’ve brought in goaltender Tristan Jarry and forward Samuel Poulin from the Pittsburgh Penguins. In return, they sent over Stuart Skinner, defenseman Brett Kulak, and a second-round draft pick for 2029.
Additionally, Edmonton acquired defenseman Spencer Stastney from the Nashville Predators, trading a third-round pick for 2027.
Jarry, standing at 6’4″ and weighing 200 lbs, has played 14 games this season with a solid record of 9 wins, 3 losses, and 1 overtime loss. He boasts a goals-against average (GAA) of 2.66 and a save percentage of .909. Early in the season, he impressed by starting with five wins in his first six games, including a standout shutout against the San Jose Sharks.
Hailing from Surrey, B.C., Jarry isn’t new to the spotlight. He was a standout with the Edmonton Oil Kings and helped them win the 2014 Memorial Cup. Drafted by Pittsburgh in 2013, he played over 300 games for the team. With two All-Star appearances under his belt, he ranks high in Penguins history for wins and games played.
Spencer Stastney, at 6’0″ and 185 lbs, has played 81 games for Nashville. Over four seasons, he has tallied one goal and eight assists, averaging just under 15 minutes of playing time each game. The 25-year-old was drafted in the fifth round back in 2018.
Poulin, taller at 6’2″ and 227 lbs, made his mark in the AHL with 64 goals and 71 assists across 207 games. He has also played 15 games for the Penguins during this time, showcasing his talent as a first-round pick in 2019.
These trades put the Oilers in a stronger position. Jarry, in particular, is expected to elevate their goaltending game.
