Wheeling, W. Va. – A weekend of rain has shifted the schedule for the Wheeling University Baseball team. Their doubleheader against Salem, originally set for Sunday, April 6th, will now take place on Monday, April 7th, at Salem. Unfortunately, this change also means the midweek game against Cedarville scheduled for April 8th has been canceled.
In their recent series opener, the Cardinals faced a tough challenge. They were swept in the doubleheader by Salem. In the first game, Salem’s pitchers dominated, preventing Wheeling from scoring at all in the seven-inning game. Although the Cardinals had a base runner in six of those innings, they couldn’t find a way to cross home plate, ending with a 10-0 loss.
The second game offered a glimmer of hope. Wheeling managed to keep it close, narrowing the score to 4-3 at one point with a three-run rally in the fifth inning. However, Salem responded decisively, scoring three runs in the sixth inning, ultimately sealing the game 6-4.
Looking ahead, the Cardinals are set to face the Tigers again on Monday, April 7th, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 PM. It’ll be a crucial chance for Wheeling to bounce back and show their resilience in this challenging series.
