Exciting Update: Dobbins Joins Broncos’ Running Back Roster!

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos have made an exciting addition to their roster by signing running back J.K. Dobbins. This one-year contract is worth $2.75 million, with the potential to exceed $5 million through incentives. Coach Sean Payton is keeping details under wraps, saying they’ll have an official announcement soon.

Dobbins, who visited the Broncos’ facility last week, has had a rocky injury history since being drafted in 2020. Despite setbacks, he had an impressive 2024 season, racking up 905 rushing yards, catching 32 passes, and scoring nine rushing touchdowns. Denver safety Brandon Jones noted Dobbins’ talent, especially recalling his strong performance against the Broncos last season.

Before this deal, the Los Angeles Chargers offered Dobbins a tender, meaning they could have exclusive rights to negotiate if he hadn’t signed elsewhere by July 23.

The Broncos are looking to refine their backfield. Javonte Williams, who led the team in rushing yards last season, recently signed with the Dallas Cowboys, leaving a gap in their lineup. Dobbins could step into a vital role, especially on third downs.

Colorado’s running back rotation includes four returning players: Audric Estime, Jaleel McLaughlin, Blake Watson, and Tyler Badie. Among them, McLaughlin had the most rushing yards and touchdowns last year, but concerns linger about his size and pass protection skills.

Additionally, the Broncos drafted running back RJ Harvey from Central Florida in the second round. Payton sees potential in Harvey, who has been working hard through rookie minicamps and OTAs to prove he can contribute right away.

Overall, the Broncos are gearing up for the season with a mix of experienced players and young talent. This dynamic could lead to a promising running game as they head into training camp.
