Exciting Update: Hermon Town Council Decides on Food Pantry’s Land Use Proposal!

HERMON, Maine – The Hermon Town Council decided on Thursday to revoke its earlier approval for the Neighbors Supporting Neighbors Community Food Pantry to use a section of town property.

During the meeting, council members shared concerns about the suitability of the Billings Road location for a food pantry. They believe it wouldn’t serve the community’s needs effectively.

Last month, pantry representatives shared their urgent need for a new facility, as their current operations are limited and can’t keep up with the demand.

Despite denying the property use, councilors showed their willingness to help. Pantry director Carol Lackedy received support from them, signaling a desire to explore other options.

One councilor mentioned they are searching for alternatives. “I’m renting some office space in the industrial park and have connections there. I’m looking into a warehouse since the pantry has expanded services beyond food—like furniture and appliances,” he said. He is reaching out to local business owners to find a more suitable location for the pantry.

If you want to support the food pantry, you can contact Carol Lackedy via email at clackedy@yahoo.com or call her at (207) 299-5186.
