NBCUniversal and YouTube TV have agreed to a temporary extension while they discuss a new deal. Their current contract was set to end at midnight ET on Tuesday.

A YouTube TV spokesperson mentioned, “We’ve reached a short-term extension to avoid service disruption as we work towards a new agreement with NBCUniversal. We appreciate our subscribers’ patience during this time.”

This announcement came soon after TelevisaUnivision’s channels, like Univision, went dark on YouTube TV. Their deal also expired at the same time. Additionally, YouTube TV is negotiating with Disney and ESPN for another deal, with their contract expiring soon.

Carriage disputes like these are becoming more common, especially as many people are moving away from traditional cable. Despite these challenges, YouTube TV has carved out a significant position in the market. It’s now the fourth-largest operator in the U.S., reaching over 10 million subscribers in just eight years. In contrast, major players like Charter, Comcast, and DirecTV have seen declines in their subscriber numbers.
